As the administrative building serves as the point of arrival and first contact for visitors, the aim of the façade design was to clearly distinguish this volume from the surrounding buildings in its architectural appearance. At the same time, it was important that the structure not be perceived as a foreign object, but rather integrate into the overall context.
This was achieved through the texture and materiality of the building envelope. The horizontal parapet bands are clad with colorless anodized expanded metal grilles. The expanded metal was mounted point by point onto a substructure. A black Stamoid membrane forms the waterproofing layer.
The strictly horizontal lines were softened by slightly angling the alignments. This measure enhances the special “lbrida” texture of the expanded metal. A “wave” thus moves around the building. Through alternating installation — first floor transparency from the left, second floor transparency from the right, and so on — an effect similar to a hologram is created. Depending on the viewing angle, the façade’s appearance changes.
This interplay, together with the selected color concept, gives the façade an extraordinary vibrancy. The colored laminated safety glass provides protection against weather and intrusion when the window sashes are tilted for the necessary cooling. The colors correspond to the product identification colors of Spirig Pharma AG.
