FHS St. Gallen

The multi-purpose building consists of a horizontal structure containing classrooms, which adopts the city’s cornice height and follows the street alignments, as well as a tower housing institute facilities, which forms a triad beyond the railway tracks with the towers of the town hall and the main post office.

The position of the tower within the ring defines two distinct courtyards: an inner courtyard serving as the center of the complex and used as a library, and an outer courtyard that provides daylight to the circulation areas and the entrance hall.

The exterior envelope, which unifies the building’s overall form while being subtly differentiated through its relief — horizontal in the ring and vertical in the tower — consists of prefabricated, etched concrete elements.
