Sustainably beautiful living Kompassquartier in Bruchsal with aluminum systems from WICONA implemented
In Bruchsal near Karlsruhe, the new Kompass-Quartier Bahnstadt has been completed. Designed by the architects Peter + Paschen GmbH (Hamburg), this residential and commercial quarter offers future-oriented living space for all generations and was built to the KfW55 standard. On the facades of the new buildings, sustainable aluminum systems from WICONA are used.
Space for future-oriented living and housing
The Kompass-Quartier Bahnstadt is a key project in Bruchsal's urban development and comprises eight new buildings with a total of 126 residential units up to six stories high—from studios to family apartments with gardens, including apartments designed for seniors with services, to a luxurious penthouse. This is complemented by a central park-like square, underground parking, a cafe, and coworking spaces for residents. Located near the town center, this 10,000 m² new-build quarter offers, in a central location, all the prerequisites for future-oriented and individual living for all generations. Sustainability played an important role in planning. The quarter features an innovative energy concept and all buildings were constructed to the KfW55 standard.
Aesthetically and energetically convincing façade solution
A characteristic feature of the partly point-like, row, and block-type buildings are the façades. These were designed by the Peter + Paschen office with a horizontal band of white stucco and a colored banded plaster at window level, which acts as a unifying element. In addition, the façade is enhanced by balconies and loggias that emphasize the various viewpoints and orientations of the buildings relative to one another. For the choice of window elements, the decision was made to use the thermally highly insulating WICLINE 75 TOP from WICONA. It combines the slender look of a 75 mm window system with optimal energy performance, with Uw values below 0.80 W/(m²K). For project-specific comfort, the windows were equipped with higher sound insulation values and lockable opening restrictors.
Visually matching, doors of type WICSTYLE 75 evo were used, and where required, WICSTYLE 77 FP fire doors. Not least, the façades in the commercial areas such as the café and coworking spaces feature the visually appealing post-and-rail façade WICTEC 60.
Facade for reduced CO2 footprint
The aluminum systems installed in the Kompass-Quartier Bahnstadt are manufactured from Hydro CIRCAL 75R. The sustainable aluminum alloy consists of at least 75% recycled end-of-life aluminum—aluminum scrap that has already gone through a lifecycle in a product. Project advisor at WICONA, Christian Britzelmayer, explains: “Hydro CIRCAL 75R has a CO2 balance of only 1.9 kg CO2/kg aluminum and was perfectly suited to meet the project’s high sustainability requirements. It enables durable resource savings and reduces climate-damaging carbon dioxide emissions.”
