The L-shaped university, built near the Wels city center, closes the urban edge and integrates into the surroundings with a clear and legible form. The courtyard wing is one story lower than the street-facing wing to respect the smaller-scale villa structure of the neighborhood.
The building is distinguished by a clear design concept, transparency, and high spatial quality. A generous hall serves as the communicative center of the university, with walkways and bridges connecting the two sides of the hall. The open spatial experience is carried into the adjoining rooms through skylights.
Calculations classify the building as a low-energy house. Particular attention was paid to the design of the double-skin façade. The staggered installation of the glass panels allows air to flow in while largely preventing street noise, ensuring undisturbed work even with open windows.
The new building is designed for approximately 1,200 students and 100 staff members. The focus of study at the Wels campus is in the fields of technology and business.
