In Manosque, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region, the regional branch of Crédit Agricole Provence-Côte d’Azur set out to leave an oversized and energy-intensive building and relocate its administrative center to a 7,600 m² site. As part of the Bâtiments Durables Méditerranéens (BDM) approach, the winning project by R+4 Architectes pushes the boundaries of eco-design as far as possible.

Architectural approach: a "domestic metaphor"

Starting from an unremarkable plot of land, R+4 Architectes succeeded in transforming it into a landscaped oasis. Together with landscape designers Fabrique HetR, they created generous green spaces managed responsibly and certified under the BiodiverCity Life label. In alignment with the identity of the “green bank,” the building asserts a solid presence within its territory — square in form yet visually light. Indeed, above a concrete base, two timber-frame levels are elevated in cantilever to give the structure an airy appearance.

Benefits: sustainable and comfortable

“Back in 2014, Crédit Agricole developed a BDM Silver-certified building in Puget-sur-Argens (Var),” explains Julien Dhollande. “Here, our objective was to achieve Gold certification in both design and construction phases which we did and we hope to achieve it in the operational phase as well. The initial building management system data aligns perfectly with our projections…” Already, the comfort of employees and visitors is fully meeting expectations.
