Revitalizing historic industrial architecture into a modern hotel
The hotel, built in the former Pastificio Italiano building, a reinforced concrete industrial structure dating back to 1908, is a renovation that combines traditional architecture with modern comforts. At the time, it was a futuristic structure for the city: it was the first industrial building in Turin with a reinforced concrete column-and-beam structure, made possible thanks to the Porcheddu patent. In 2001, the fate of this building, now abandoned for years, was linked to that of the Spanish company AC Hoteles, which purchased the space to transform it into a five-star hotel. The preliminary and final designs were designed by Negozio Blu (Gustavo Ambrosini, Cristiana Catino, Paola Gatti, Carlo Grometto, Mauro Penna) and In Opera of Florence (engineer Lorenzo Chiarugi, architect Letizia Chiarugi); the latter subsequently oversaw the executive design.
