More than 60 architecture and façade engineering students came together on 11 May 2017 at WICONA´s 4-Countries Event in Bellenberg.
They came from Hungary, Switzerland, Austria and Germany to spend a day listening to presentations by renowned experts, getting to know the WICONA Test Centre in Bellenberg and exchanging opinions and ideas. The event was held in cooperation with the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, the Graz University of Technology and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
Dino Rossi, Director A/CH and CSEE made the welcome address, an indication of the high value that WICONA placed on this group of participants and the presented content. Dr Ing. Werner Jager, Professor at the University of Ausburg and proprietor of ai3, the expert bureau for structural physics, kicked off with “E2D Energy Efficiency Design in Architecture“. Under the premise of sustainable construction and design, this topic combines architecture, engineering and business management.
Dr Dalibor Plsek, WICONA project manager, presented “Application examples of dynamic simulation, supporting the 3D finite element simulation of façade, window and door design”. Prof. Dr Andreas Luible, Head of the Competence Centre at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, then gave a talk on the “Adaptive Building Envelope“ and charted the vehement development of façades into highly complex adaptive systems, which react promptly to varying environmental conditions and user requirements. Philipp Müller, Head of Research and Development at WICONA, used his lecture to answer the question, “Multi-layered window constructions - why? why? why?“. The early afternoon gave the young scientists the opportunity to visit the press plant and the WICONA Test Centre in Bellenberg under the supervision of Josef Bertele (BU Helpdesk and Patents). Prof. Dr Peter Kautsch, University lecturer at the Graz University of Technology, and architect Helmut Schober concluded the plenary lectures with their presentation “Building envelope and energy“.
The decision makers at WICONA were very satisfied with the excellent resonance of the 4-countries Event, whose interesting lectures triggered equally positive feedback from the participants. The break times were used for intense discussions. The evening programme proved to be a real highlight, with a visit to the Ecodrom go-kart track in Neu-Ulm. The international student group got a chance to use modern, environmentally-friendly electric go-karts intensively with a ‘qualifying’ period, followed by a team race: a fun and exciting evening of healthy competition after an invigorating and sustainable day.
