PROJECT DETAILS

The train station in Aarau, designed by Jakob Friedrich Wanner, was opened in 1859 and was a building of national importance. The capital city of the canton Aarau received a representative building in classic design. Within short time the train station was valid as the most beautiful one in Switzerland. But in process of the 20th century building alternations and cultivations gave a new character to the building. After balancing the arguments it was finally decided to document the old Wanner-station and replace it with a new building.
